Okay mateys, let's get started! Here is the schedule:
Jan. 31 Dave Revere
Feb. 14 Jason Kurtz
Feb. 28 Andrew Cochran
March 14 Bill Kennedy
March 28 Riley Conway
April 4 Daniel Campbell
April 18 Christopher Campbell
May 2 Alan Markham
Let me know if this needs to be changed around. In mid May, let's have a discussion evaluating how this is working and if everyone is getting something out of it. Do we want to move to every week so that we get more input on our work? Are the comment-based discussions working?
From now until Sunday when I first post my work, let's do some introductions since I know some of us know each other less than others. Please post a comment to this post. We should write a paragraph or so introducing ourselves to everyone else. I'll start. Here we go!

Well lads, I live in Bozeman, MT and have just quit my job in order to write full time! This is my last semester at Hamline and I am so excited about doing my creative thesis - but I have a shocking lack of work right now. My wife and best friend is Holly and we both have interviews in a couple weeks for a job with the Japanese Consul teaching English in Japan. That would start end of July. My writing tends to be very middle-grade boy oriented. The main reason I wanted to start this group was for community and sustaining some of that wonderful residency momentum!
ReplyDeleteYes, quitting your job is the way to go, Dave. I don't see why so many people get hung up on eating and personal hygiene. Totally overrated.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the first official post.
I work full time as the Marketing Director at my hometown hospital, in Jamestown, ND. We are building a new medical center that will open in 2011. Graduated from Hamline in July, 09. Two novels at FSG for consideration:one adult, the other a mid grade boys novel - "The Boy, The Crow and The Giant."
ReplyDeleteWorking on another mid grade boys about a dog who thinks he is human. Great to have Alan M. on board. I'm still the oldest. Look forward to reading Dave's work.

ReplyDeletePlease use real photo. Thanks...
ReplyDeleteExcellent Bill. How do you have time for anything?!
ReplyDeleteChris: I agree. Eating and personal hygiene are mere "trifles" in the words of the immortal Captain Jack Sparrow. The wind in my face is my personal hygiene and rum is my four food groups. Now bring me that horizon!
What about you though?
I grew up in a small town in southeastern Minnesota called Lake City. It’s the birthplace of waterskiing. I’m not kidding. Look it up. Beautiful town.
ReplyDeleteI went to Augsburg College, where I met my wife Andrea. We're both a couple of running fools (Cross Country and Track & Field).
We currently live in Hershey, PA (yeah, the place with the chocolate). I work at the Hershey Medical Center library and a Borders Bookstore. Andrea is in her fourth year of medical school at Penn State. We’re expecting a son in February.
And we have a pet bearded dragon. His name is Beardy (a.k.a. Beards, Mr. Beards, and Beardy McBeards). He’s awesome.
Hi, everyone!
ReplyDeleteI completed Hamline's MFA program just a few weeks ago! I hope to have my YA novel "Hoodie Boy Blue" ready for submission in the coming months, and I've almost finished rewriting my MG gross-out "The Finger."
My wife, Daisy, and I live in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and I teach as a fixed-term instructor at Winona State.
I, too, think little of personal hygiene.
I love animals. Our pets: three leopard geckos, one large snake named Johan Santana, some Alpine newts, a softshell turtle, three cats, and whatever's been lurching around in the attic.
And I'm excited for this group!
Also, I emailed Alan about this group a few days ago, and I'll let you know when I hear back from him.
Happy writing!
The words "Full Immersion" take on literal meaning in my house when it comes to YA books & writing. I teach high school English and my wife, Nicholle teaches students how to teach high school English! I also am an adjunct instructor for a few upper level English courses at University of Sioux Falls.
ReplyDeleteWe (between the two of us) attempt to read almost every YA novel out there, especially the award winners and nominees every year, along with the novels that my students devour in the classroom.
We have four children in our blended family, Nate (10), Bria (9), Ethan (8) and Ellie (5). We are a readers dream house with personal libraries for every age group.
No pets (allergies), but I grew up on a farm and had my share...
I'll be writing realistic YA with a high school target audience.
Let's have some fun! Hiiiii-YA!
Hey everybody.
ReplyDeleteBill, I tried to e-mail you few times but kept getting regected.
I'm married to a great lady and have one amazing daughter. I teach special ed at a middle school now but was a real estate appraiser for years. For some reason I'm much happier dealing with angry, frustrated youth who act like they don't give a crap.
Oh yeah. Dave thanks for getting this going. You did a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAlan,

Hey everyone!
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm posting a little late. For some reason Dave's invitation never went through and I've been too bogged down with being sick for a week to bug him about it. But! Finally fixed.
So, a little about me. I'm 24, currently dating a wonderful girl named Katie, and working part-time at Hamline University. I've been doing student worker stuff there for 6 years now and had 5 or 6 jobs over the years in Student Affairs, Marketing, The Wesley Center and The Office of Service Learning and Volunteerism. Other than that, I do some paper editing and art commissions.
As for my writing life, I'm a jack of all trades. I do picture books, middle grade, and YA. I like writing fantasy over realistic fiction most of the time. Most of all, I like to write the stories I want to hear, because if I don't like them, how can I expect anyone else to?
Anyways, thanks Dave, glad to be a part of your group!
