Yes, that's right, gang. I found a movie for Bill, Andy, and well, Dave likes everything that is kid related and it has MUPPETS. Kermit's Swamp Years, (click for overview of the plot) features a young Kermit who gets captured, put into a pet shop, purchased by a high school teacher to dissect for anatomy class, and well, hi-jinks ensue. Cue talking dog, and a pet store featuring tons of reptiles. Really, Bill, this DVD would maybe fuel your thoughts on voice in your story. My kids loved it when they were younger, and I actually didn't mind sitting through it either. I thought of it both times during Bill and Andy's selections. Also, unlike the regular Muppet movies, the animals can't talk to humans... It is billed as "The prequel to The Muppet Movie". You can also click the image for a larger view!

Jason,
ReplyDeleteThanks for thinking of us. Will check out the movie.
Bill
I saw "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" last night and you guys should all see this movie pronto! Original, wonderful hilarious. And talk about amazingly original and consistent voices! These furry creatures have a very human society but each with a distinct trait that is uniquely their species.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Dave. Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of my three favorite films from last year. It's revolutionary in its animated film techniques, too. And I don't just mean the cool stop-motion. Apparently, instead of recording all of the characters voices separately (as is the routine with most animated films and television shows), Wes Anderson took several of the actors out to a house in the English countryside (much like the setting of the book and film) and recorded them interacting with each other (chasing each other around the room, using props, etc.). Almost like an old timey radio program. I think this really helped with the characterizations.
ReplyDeleteFantastic fox. Fantastic movie.
I heart Wes Anderson.
